Variations Between Film and Music

An exclusive selection of music, performed by the Czech Philharmonic under the direction of American star conductor Keith Lockhart. Besides Korngold’s Violin Concerto in D Major featuring concertmaster Jiří Vodička, audiences will also hear Mozart’s Symphony No. 25 in G Minor, the Adagio from Janáček’s Idyll for Strings, and a cinematic orchestral suite by William Walton.

About program
This November, the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and the Czech Philharmonic join forces for the fifth time to enrich Karlovy Vary’s autumn cultural season with an exclusive program of events. Classical music fans will have the unique opportunity to enjoy a concert by the country’s leading orchestra in the intimate setting of the Karlovy Vary Municipal Theater. The program features works by renowned composers presented under the direction of American star conductor Keith Lockhart, with solo violin performed by the Czech Philharmonic’s concertmaster Jiří Vodička.
Irena Jakubcová
Irena Jakubcová je od roku 2012 členkou České filharmonie, kde zastává post zástupce koncertního mistra. Pochází z muzikantské rodiny s více než stoletou tradicí – na housle začala hrát již v pěti letech. Absolvovala Konzervatoř v Plzni a na Akademii múzických umění v Praze studovala bakalářský a magisterský stupeň ve třídě profesora Ivana Štrause. Vystoupila několikrát jako sólistka s Plzeňskou filharmonií, s Českou filharmonií vystoupila sólově pod taktovkou Jakuba Hrůši ke 100. výročí narození skladatelky Vítězslavy Kaprálové. V roce 2003 byla členkou Pražské komorní filharmonie, kde měla možnost také vystupovat sólově. V letech 2007 až 2010 byla členkou Kvarteta Martinů, v současnosti je členkou Janáčkova tria a Sexteta českých filharmoniků.
Stanislav Masaryk
Since September 2020 he has been a member of the Czech Philharmonic, where he holds the position of first trumpeter. He has also performed as a soloist with the Czech Philharmonic under the baton of principal guest conductor Tomáš Netopil and chief conductor Semyon Bychkov. As an exceptional student aged 13, he joined the class of JUDr. Michal Janoš at the Bratislava Conservatory and was enrolled there in the following year. He later continued at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. He was awarded the 1st prize and the title of the overall winner at the International Competition for Wind Instruments Brno 2017 among more than 60 trumpet players from the Visegrad Four countries. From 2009 to 2020 he was a member of the Bratislava Hot Serenaders hot-jazz orchestra, in 2012–2015, he was a member of the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra. From 2012 to 2019, he was the principal trumpeter of the Slovak National Theatre Opera Orchestra, with small breaks. In 2017 and 2018 he was the first trumpeter in the orchestra of the National Theatre Prague. During that time, he started regularly collaborating with the Czech Philharmonic.
